Zero-Touch TV Setup (Apple Business Manager)

With Apple Business Manager (ABM), new Apple TVs automatically enroll and configure themselves the moment you plug them in. No Mac, no Apple Configurator, no manual steps — just power and an internet connection.

Who can use it: Gym chains and businesses that purchase Apple TVs through Apple or an authorized reseller.

Not sure which guide you need?

  • Buying new Apple TVs through Apple or a reseller? You’re in the right place.
  • Setting up Apple TVs you already own? See Managed TV Setup instead — that guide walks through Apple Configurator enrollment.

What You Need

How It Works

Buy Apple TV → Reseller links to your ABM → ABM assigns to SimpleMDM → Plug in → Auto-enrolls → Womoji installs → Dashboard appears

The entire process is automatic after the one-time setup below.

Step 1: Set Up MDM for Your Group

If you haven’t already, set up device management from the Womoji app. This only needs to be done once per group.

  1. Open your group in the Womoji app
  2. Tap the ”…” overflow menu → “MDM Devices”
  3. Tap “Set Up MDM”

The app creates your management group, assigns the Womoji TV app, and pushes configuration automatically. You’ll see a pairing code and status badges when it’s done.

If you already see the pairing code and green badges, skip to Step 2.

Step 2: Create Your ABM Account

  1. Go to business.apple.com and sign up (free for businesses)
  2. Complete the verification process — Apple may take 1–2 business days to approve

Step 3: Connect ABM to SimpleMDM

This tells ABM where to send your devices for management.

  1. In ABM, go to SettingsDevice Management
  2. Click Add MDM Server
  3. Server Name: Enter “Womoji” (or any name you’ll recognize)
  4. Server URL: Enter the SimpleMDM enrollment URL (contact us for this)
  5. Save

For purchased devices to automatically appear in ABM, your reseller needs to be linked to your account.

  1. In ABM, go to SettingsDevice Management
  2. Under Resellers, add your authorized Apple reseller
  3. Your reseller may need your ABM Organization ID to complete the link on their end

Once linked, any Apple TV you purchase through that reseller is automatically registered in your ABM account.

Step 5: Buy and Deploy

  1. Purchase Apple TV 4K (WiFi + Ethernet model) through Apple or your linked reseller
  2. The reseller automatically registers the serial numbers in your ABM account
  3. ABM auto-assigns the devices to SimpleMDM
  4. Plug the Apple TV in at the gym and connect to Ethernet (or WiFi)
  5. The TV enrolls automatically → Womoji installs → auto-pairs to your group → dashboard appears

With Ethernet + power, the setup is truly zero-touch — no remote or interaction needed.

Setting Up WiFi for Your TVs

If your TVs will run on WiFi instead of Ethernet, push WiFi credentials from the app after enrollment:

  1. In the MDM Devices screen, tap the WiFi section
  2. Enter your gym’s WiFi network name and password
  3. Tap Save

The WiFi profile is pushed to all enrolled TVs in your group automatically. See Managed TV Setup — Setting Up WiFi for details.

Managing Your TVs

Once enrolled, you manage ABM-enrolled TVs the same way as any managed TV — long-press a device in the MDM Devices list for commands like Restart, Update OS, Lock, and Wipe. See Managed TV Setup — Managing Your TVs for the full list.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from Apple Configurator setup? With ABM, devices enroll automatically when plugged in — no Mac or manual preparation needed. Apple Configurator is for enrolling TVs you already own, one at a time. ABM is for new purchases at scale.

Can I use ABM for TVs I already own? Yes — but it’s a separate Apple Configurator workflow from the direct enrollment guide. Instead of pasting an enrollment URL, you check “Add to Apple Business Manager” during the Prepare step and sign in with your ABM account. This registers the TV in ABM so that any future factory reset will auto-re-enroll through ABM — giving you zero-touch going forward. Note: there’s a 30-day provisional period before the ABM assignment becomes permanent.

Do I need to assign each TV to my group manually? Devices auto-assign to SimpleMDM through ABM, but they need to be placed in your gym’s assignment group within SimpleMDM. Contact us to set up automatic group assignment for your account.

What if the TV loses WiFi? The same recovery process applies. See TV WiFi Recovery for step-by-step instructions.

Can staff accidentally exit the app? No. ABM-enrolled TVs are supervised and locked into kiosk mode, just like Apple Configurator-enrolled TVs. The Home button and system navigation are disabled.

Do we need a special Apple TV model? You need an Apple TV 4K WiFi + Ethernet model. WiFi-only models cannot be enrolled via ABM.
